Weather warnings have been issued for high winds in multiple counties

"Essential journeys only" are encouraged as Storm Isha is set to bring winds of up to 130km/hour.

Met Éireann have issued a Status Orange Wind Warning for most of the country, set to take effect from 5pm on Sunday evening.

Coastal counties on the Atlantic and the Irish Sea are expected to see the worst of it, particularly in Donegal.

According to Cathal Nolan from Ireland's Weather Channel, winds across much of the country will reach up to 110km/h, "even inland."

This is set to cause disruption to power and transport services, he said, "with some minor damage to buildings also, chiefly in the form of torn off roof tiles."

Exposed coastal locations such as Kerry, Clare, Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal may briefly see winds approach 130km/h, with a small chance of winds exceeding 130km/h and possibly breaching status red weather criterium in Donegal.

Winds are likely to reach up to 120km/h in all Atlantic counties and some counties on the Irish sea from Dublin to Wexford, which is likely to bring power cuts as well as delayed or cancelled road, rail and air services, "with a continued risk of some minor structural damage due to the strength of the winds."

Peak winds are expected to occur across the country between Sunday afternoon, January 21, and 1am on Monday, January 22, with a separate swathe of even stronger winds likely between 9pm and 1am in Donegal.
