Rumours are swirling that Fianna Fáil may run both Cllr Ryan O'Meara and Cllr Michael Smith in the Tipperary North constituency for the upcoming General Election.
Cllr O'Meara who is a councillor in the Nenagh municipal district began his campaign to seek the Fianna Fáil nomination just over a week ago following Jackie Cahill TD's announcement that he would not be running. He has since received the backing of several local politicians including Cahill TD and his sister and fellow councillor Cllr Kay Cahill-Skeehan. He has also secured backing from Fianna Fáil members of the North West Kilkenny districts that have recently joined the Tipperary North constituency.
Roscrea's Cllr Michael Smith, who is currently the Cathaoirleach of the Thurles/Roscrea/Templemore Municipal Council and was a poll topper in the recent local elections announced his intention to seek the Fianna Fáil nomination earlier this week.
The Fianna Fáil selection convention is set to take place tonight at 8:30pm in Templemore where it is expected that the party will officially announce they will run both candidates in the upcoming General Election.
