General Election candidate believes young representation is needed in Tipperary

Cllr Ryan O'Meara is running in for Tipperary North in the General Election

Cllr Ryan O’Meara may not have as much work experience as some of his fellow candidates but he’s been doing a great job demonstrating the value of the experience he has as a young person.

At 29 years of age, Cllr O’Meara has made it clear that he understands the frustrations of young people and he has made quick work of becoming an expert on his constituency in impressively granular detail.

When Cllr O’Meara announced his intent to run, he  said: “I believe that I can be a fresh, new voice in Dáil Éireann for the people of North Tipperary and North West Kilkenny. I believe it is time that my generation stood up and demanded the representation that we deserve at national level, to ensure our concerns in the areas of housing, health, cost of living, childcare, infrastructure and much, much more are heard and addressed.

“I believe that Fianna Fáil is the party that is delivering and will deliver for this country and I want to be part of that team in the Dáil.

“Having regained a seat for Fianna Fáil in the Nenagh - Borrisokane - Lower Ormond area in last June’s Local Elections, I believe that I am the candidate that our party should select to ensure that Fianna Fáil holds our seat in Dáil Éireann at the next election.”

A very likeable candidate, he’s sure to win over a chunk of young voters that would otherwise not be Fianna Fáil voters but on the opposite side to his fellow Fianna Fáil-er Cllr Michael Smith, his youth and lack of council experience might put off older voters that would be familiar with names like Smith, Lowry and Kelly on the ballot.

You would imagine that maybe if he was running for a party more popular with the younger generation like Sinn Féin, he would be a shoe in, but there’s a lot of distaste out there for Fianna Fáil in younger circles so his party-allegiances may be hurting his chances of getting the younger vote that he deserves.
