With Fianna Fáil’s Jackie Cahill stepping away from the game and opening the floor to a newcomer, there’s a chance that Nenagh could have one or even two TDs sitting at the big table in Government.
The betting man would suggest that the next Government is going to look like a combination of Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil and the Labour Party forming a coalition.
If that were to be the case, Alan Kelly would almost certainly be part of the new Government.
As well as that, Nenagh councillor Ryan O’Meara is surely the dark horse of the Tipperary North competition and could be the surprise seat-getter.
A member of Fianna Fáil and a strong young voice in Tipperary, he has proven in his short time as a public official that he is not afraid to speak out and is very committed when it comes to understanding the issues of his electorate.
Now, taking the third seat will be a bit of a challenge for Ryan with serious competition from fellow Fianna Fáil man, Cllr Michael Smith and Thurles’ passionate Independent Jim Ryan campaigning hard for a spot.
However, if the rumours are true and Labour are getting some time in the spotlight, then Alan Kelly, who is known for his outspokenness in the Dáil, would definitely give Nenagh some serious air time.
In his time as minister previously, Alan Kelly was a driving force in bringing Fiserv to Nenagh and has been a steadfast supporter of successful Nenagh business, The Lunch Bag.
Both Fiserv and The Lunch Bag are signficant employers in the area. As senior minister he also announced the plans for the Silvermines Hydroelectric Power Station which is now in planning stages, the business is expected to employ 100 people once it’s fully up and running.
There's plenty of opportunity in Nenagh for additional businesses to put down roots, access to the motorway, Shannon Airport, Limerick city and a busy town centre would make Nenagh an attractive location for businesses with the right TD able to point them in the town’s direction.
