Irish stars Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy both finished the PGA Tour season on a positive note at East Lake Golf Club last night as the FedEx Cup reached its dramatic conclusion.

While Englishman Tommy Fleetwood stole the headlines by finally clinching his first-ever win on US soil, Irish fans had plenty to follow as both Lowry and McIlroy competed in the select 30-man field.

Fleetwood's breakthrough came at the 164th attempt, as the Ryder Cup star held his nerve to card a closing 68 and finish three shots clear of Patrick Cantlay and Russell Henley on 18-under-par.

The victory not only secured him his first PGA Tour title but also the FedEx Cup crown and a staggering $10 million in prize money.

Lowry was among the first to greet Fleetwood on the 18th green, along with fellow Ryder Cup team-mate Justin Rose. The Offaly man had reason to be satisfied himself after a steady week saw him climb into a tie for 13th place on 10-under.

It continues a consistent run of form for the Clara native, who also made his presence felt earlier in the FedEx Cup play-off series.

McIlroy endured a quieter week but extended an impressive personal record. The Holywood golfer finished in a tie for 23rd on six-under, alongside Maverick McNealy, ensuring his streak of qualifying for every Tour Championship since 2012 remains intact.

Elsewhere, Viktor Hovland finished 12th, while Rose tied for 21st, as Europe's Ryder Cup players continued their preparations ahead of next month's defence against the United States.

The Tour Championship once again underlined the scale of money on offer at the PGA Tour's season-ending showpiece. With only 30 players in the field, every competitor was guaranteed a significant return regardless of finishing position.

For the Irish duo, the final figures told their own story. Lowry's tie for 13th was worth $570,000, while McIlroy's share of 23rd earned him $395,000.

Both men will now look to carry their form into the autumn as the focus begins to turn towards team golf on the Ryder Cup stage.
