Ormond Historical Society talk will focus on the effects of the Civil War in Tipperary

Ormond Historical Society's January lecture will take place on Monday, January 16, in the Abbey Court Hotel at 8pm.

The talk, Aspects of the Civil War in County Tipperary will look at the situation in Tipperary one hundred years ago during the 11 months of the Civil War.

What effect did the conflict have on the ordinary lives of the people? How did the Tipperary compare to other countries?

The talk will examine these questions and will also look at who the local protagonists were on the opposing sides, the number and nature of fatalities and the controversial subject of executions.

The spectre of the Civil War has overshadowed Irish politics for the last century and it is only in recent times that we are finally coming to discuss the internecine conflict which engulfed the country at its birth.

The speaker, John Flannery, is a past president of the society and a regular contributor to OHS talks  He has written several articles on the Civil War and also conducts tours, with his colleague in Tipperary in the Decade of Revolution  - John Connors - of locations involved in the revolutionary period.

The talk is open to everyone (non-members €10).
