Getting ready for the Silvermines Men’s Shed exhibition in Nenagh library, Mike Ryan, Michael O’Brien, Margaret Ryan, Eoin Costello
Nenagh library is delighted to welcome members of Silvermines Men’s Shed to exhibit with us for the month of February.
Their men’s shed was formed in 2017 and has 20 active members who meet on Thursday evenings.
The group undertake various activities but are particularly interested in woodcarving.
Funded by Tipperary ETB’s Community Education programme, members of this men’s shed are currently undertaking their fifth course on the craft of woodcarving and, as is obvious by the magnificent pieces on display, they have elevated this ancient skill to a high level.
There are five men’s sheds in north Tipperary, each of whom are engaged in a wide variety of activities such as woodwork, crafts, computers, DIY, music/ singing and genealogy.
They also take part in different community projects, in a relaxed and informal setting as above all else, the shed is a social space where all are welcome and everyone who attends can be involved at their own pace.
In fact, it could be said that the most important tool in the shed is the kettle.
North Tipperary Development Company (NTDL) has a dedicated men’s sheds support worker to work with sheds in the region. At present, they are run in Borrisokane, Nenagh, Silvermines, Thurles and Littleton.
If you would like to explore the idea of starting a men’s shed in your community, contact Mike Ryan on 087-2226298
