Tipperary and Kilkenny won’t have long to pour over the coals of the action from last Sunday’s Allianz National Hurling League fixture in Nowlan Park, as they will dust themselves down this week to get ready for a quick turnaround to face off again.
This time, there are no points or prestige at stake, rather just cause to raise money for a worthy endeavour as the Dillon Quirke Foundation Senior Hurling Challenge Match will be centre stage in FBD Semple Stadium this Sunday at 2pm.
Speaking about the upcoming fundraiser challenge match after Tipperary’s win over Kilkenny, Liam Cahill is expecting a very emotional occasion and his hope is that every Tipperary supporter and the public in general will row in behind this very worthy cause
“Next Sunday we’ll do it all again in Thurles, albeit on a different occasion as we remember our fallen comrade in Dillon Quirke.
“It will bring on a different array of emotions especially for us in the Tipperary dressing room, but it’s still one we’re looking forward to and it’s one that’s very close to us and very important too,” he said.
There has been a lot of coverage to highlight the worthiness of the cause undertaken by Dillon’s family and the hope would be for a large crowd to turn out to see the game, while there is also the capacity for people who cannot attend to donate in absentia in order to increase the funds raised for GAA players the country over.
The initiative aims to create awareness about SADS (Sudden Adult Death Syndrome) and to cardiac screen every male and female GAA player from the age of 12 upwards.
All proceeds of the game will go towards the ultimate aim of raising €1 million to fund screening for all GAA clubs around Ireland.
The entry fee for the game is €20 with children under the age of 16 admitted for free, while there is also an option of purchasing non-attendance tickets and a commemorative match programme for the game will also be published in soft and hard copy.
Tickets for the game along with the match streaming pass can be purchased at www.tipperary.gaa.ie/the-dillon-quirke-founation-senior-hurling-challenge/
The GoFundMe page is also running for anyone who wants to make a donation via the official website at dillonquirkefoundation.com/.
It is sure to be a tough occasion for Dillon’s family, his club Clonoulty/Rossmore, and the Tipperary public but the hope is for a great contest between the teams and a big turnout from the public to help in a venture to potentially save lives.
