Nenagh Ormond continue sharp rise up AIL table with another win at home

All Ireland League - Division 2A - Round 13

Nenagh Ormond 28

Highfield RFC 5

Nenagh Ormond continued their unbelievable recent form with another four pointer win at home in New Ormond Park, this time over Cork visitors Highfield RFC.

The north Tipperary club took the lead at half time after having the better of the proceedings despite a positive start from Highfield, with Ormond taking the lead after ten minutes thanks to a well taken try from the veteran figure of Josh Rowland, blocking an attempted clearance kick close the the Highfield line before pouncing on the loose ball to dot down and score.

It was all Nenagh for large spells of the rest of the first half, and they were rewarded on 34 minutes when team captain Willie Coffey burst through the Highfield line inside the 22 and evaded several attempted last ditch tackles to run in under the posts, which meant the home side led 15-0 lead at half time.

Ormond started the second half how the finished the first, with a delicate and precise grubber kick down the wing by Derek Corcoran fell beautifully into the path of Patrick Scully who had the easy task of gathering and placing the ball down for Nenagh’s third try of the day to open a comfortable 22-0 lead after 50 minutes.

Highfield eventually made good use of their big forward pack ten minutes later to register their first points of the game with a strong rolling maul close to the Nenagh try line proving to powerful to handle, but Nenagh had the result well in the bag at this stage, with a couple of penalties in the last 20 minutes pushing them to an easy win.

They are now up to fourth in the table and well in the shake up for promotion to Division 1B for next season; one place ahead of Cashel.
