Ryan O’Meara says Nenagh DIL is going green this year
Nenagh Darkness Into Light (DIL) is going green this year and is encouraging participants to reuse their DIL t-shirts from previous years.
The Chairperson of Nenagh DIL, Ryan O’Meara is encouraging local people who participate in the annual walk to consider both the environmental and financial costs before ordering a new t-s
“The Nenagh DIL team are working closely with Pieta House this year to reduce the costs of the annual walk as much as possible by encouraging local participants to reuse their t-shirts from previous years,” he said.
Mr O’Meara said that every t-shirt reused was a saving for Pieta House, and that money could instead be put into providing the vital, lifesaving services they offer to those most in need.
“On top of this, we have the environmental saving of reducing the over-production of clothing, and it is a small step that we can all take to reduce our carbon footprint,” he said.
The Chairperson pointed out that the design of the famous yellow t-shirts had remained the same for a number of years, so they would ask anyone registering online to consider this before ordering a new t-shirt again this year.
“We will also be hosting our Registration Day on Pearse Street on Saturday, April 15, and we have t-shirts in stock, but we will be asking those signing up in person on the day to consider reusing their items from previous years before taking new ones,” said Mr O’Meara.
DIL is the main fundraising source for Pieta, which was founded in Dublin in 2006 to provide free, accessible one-to-one counselling to people suffering from suicidal ideation, engaging in self-harm or to those bereaved by suicide.
With hundreds of qualified therapists across various physical centres, they do everything they can to ensure that help is available to those in crisis.
Last year saw the return of DIL to Nenagh after three years, due to Covid-19, and over €17,000 was raised locally from last year's event.
DIL Nenagh is taking place on Saturday, May 6, at 4.15am starting from the Scouts Hall in Nenagh.
