Tipperary Branch of Parkinson's holds it Annual General Meeting this Thursday, April 6, at 2pm in the Anner Hotel, Thurles.
We invite all our members and newly diagnosed to attend this meeting to meet with members from your area and to receive further information on the diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.
The beginning of April is an exciting time for patients with Parkinson’s as we celebrate Parkinson’s Awareness Week April 11 to April 15.
This coincides with the reopening of our room in Loreto House, Kenyon Street, Nenagh, where our members can come and relax while there partners can go shopping attend a medical appointment, relax over a coffee / tea with their friends or go to the hairdresser. The patient will be well looked after and and taken care of.
Booking of this service is essential; contact Marion on 087-296729.
We will hold a coffee / tea morning on Tuesday, April 11, to coincide with this. Thurles and Clonmel continue to run their monthly meetings.
Parkinson’s HQ have organised Zoom meetings on Tuesday, April 11, on Why Personalisation by Sex and Gender is important for Parkinson’s. This will be at 12noon.
At 7pm we have Mindfulness with Dee Daly, psychotherapist.
On Wednesday, April 12, at 12noon there is a singalong, exercise your voice with Dara McMahon, and, at 7pm, yoga with Theresa Kearney.
On Thursday there is a zoom video with Parkinson’s nurse specialist Lisa Wynn and at 4pm seated exercises. At 1pm on Friday, Family Carers Ireland will do a talk and we end with a countrywide national conference at 2pm with a host of speakers.
It is by taking part in some of these activities that you learn about your illness and how to control the symptoms.
The Tipperary Branch would like to thank Richard Wallace, Liffey Mills, and all the staff at Liffey Mills for their generous donation to our branch.
Richard Wallace, on his last day of work at Liffey Mills, held a coffee morning in aid of Tipperary Parkinson’s Branch, where all the money will be spent locally, and Motor Neurone Disease. Happy retirement Richard, and well done it was a phenomenal amount of money raised.
We would also like to acknowledge a very generous donation from a friend who does not wish to be named. We really appreciate all funds received from these and funerals and it helps to provide our members in Tipperary with exercises classes etc.
A special word of thanks to Chris Madden from Portroe who has donated jerseys to the U8 sand U9s in Arra Rovers Club in memory of his late father, James.
Arra Rovers have made history being the first and only club wearing jerseys with the Parkinson’s logo on it. Well done to all and what a wonderful way of promoting Parkinson’s
Thanks also to Dermot O'Halloran for bringing it to our attention.
Remember that we have to live with Parkinson’s rather than letting Parkinson's define our life.
The way we approach the condition will have a huge impact on how it affects our life both now and in the future, and our friends and family will take the lead from how we deal with our condition. Be Positive. Be Strong. And take your medication on time.
