GAA stars to shine a light on championship and raise funds for Gurtagarry primary school

Gurtagarry’s own Tommy Dunne will be MC for the night

Gurtagarry Community Hall will open its doors this Saturday night to welcome legends of hurling to an entertaining and lively discussion on the upcoming Hurling Championship.

This is a very timely event as the 2023 championship kicks off the following weekend, and this year, like every other year, the speculation in advance of the championship is thrilling.

Will Limerick make it to four-in-a-row? Will Liam Cahill’s Tipp go the distance? Can Davy Fitzgerald re-ignite Waterford’s fire? Are Cork waiting in the long grass for their moment to shine?

These questions and more will be discussed by the expert panel of Jamesie O’Connor, Clare, Shane McGrath, Tipperary, and Johnny Pilkington, Offaly.

Gurtagarry’s own Tommy Dunne will be MC for the night, and he says he is really looking forward to welcoming three very special guests to Gurtagarry.

“We are looking forward to their stories and anecdotes, as well as their thoughts and predictions on the upcoming hurling championship,” said Tommy.

This event is being organised by Gurtagarry NS Parents’ Association to help in the ever increasing costs of running our local primary school.

Gurtagarry NS principal, Tríona Dunne, said: “It is a privilege that we will have such superstars in our company on Saturday, April 15. We are very grateful to them for giving up their time to help us in Gurtagarry NS.

“It is no coincidence that such a night is being held in Gurtagarry, given that the school community and the entire community is steeped in GAA tradition.”

The Gurtagarry NS Parents’ Association are delighted to be hosting this event in the newly refurbished Community Hall (E45 FA43).

This is one of the biggest events to be held in the hall since it was reopened officially in early 2022.

Karen Ryan, Chairperson of the Parents’ Association, said: “We are delighted and very fortunate to have such a wonderful facility at our disposal and we hope it will be full to the rafters on Saturday, April 15.”

Tickets for the Hurling Championship Preview Night cost €20 and are available at https://bit.ly/GurtagarryNS Entry also includes inclusion in an impressive raffle on the night.

There are some wonderful prizes to be won, including a two night B&B stay with one evening meal in any FBD Hotel (hotels include Faithlegg House Hotel, county Waterford; Kilashee Hotel, Naas, county Kildare; the Heritage Hotel, Killenard, county Laois; the Castleknock Hotel, Dublin) and a round of golf for four in Nenagh Golf Club.

“Extra-time” (if needed!) will be held next door in The Shop (Jim Mac’s public house), where finger food will be provided.

This is a night not to be missed by hurling fans.

Don’t delay in getting your ticket at https://bit.ly/GurtagarryNS or by contacting committee members at 085-8697775 or 086-8285633.
