Tipperary Labour Party launches bid to reclaim areas lost to Limerick in last election
The Tipperary Labour Party has started a campaign to have those parts of the county put in with Limerick for the last General Election to be returned to this constituency.
The Electoral Commission is currently carrying out a review in relation to constituencies for the election of members to the Dáil and European Parliament.
Deputy Alan Kelly and Cllr Fiona Bonfield will be making a submission to the commission before the closing date of May 10, 2023, and are calling for Newport, Birdhill and Kilcomentry to be reassigned back to Tipperary.
He said having them in Limerick “flies in the face of common sense” considering these areas are represented locally on Tipperary County Council.
“We have an outline petition on this and also have copies of the petition at my office at 1 Summerhill in Nenagh and also at Mulcair Credit Union in Newport,” Deputy Kelly said.
"I am asking people in the affected areas and others in surrounding areas to sign the petition," Cllr Bonfield commented, or people can make their own submission before the closing date of May 10th by emailing ConstituencyReview@ electoralcommission.ie or may be posted to An Coimisiun Toghchain, The Electoral Commission, Dublin Castle, Dublin 2.
