First year girls soccer champions
Congratulations to our first year girls soccer squad who won their final on Tuesday, May 16 to take home the Shannonside League Title.
The path to the final was a journey, with the girls playing teams including Mungret and Askeaton, leaving triumphant at each leg to top their table to earn their place in today’s final.
The stage was set for a thriller against St Mary’s Charleville, our CEIST neighbours, who also topped their league. It was a thrilling game from start to finish which could have gone either way. A goal from Fia White-Linnane after 10 minutes proved to be the difference between the sides.
The game was end to end, with both teams having chances. Charleville hit the crossbar, while later, Ellen Hackett’s shot skimmed wide of the goal. The girls dug deep and fought with everything as each minute passed.
We are so proud of each and every member of the squad. For displaying great commitment to the team by turning up to training, but also for working together as a unit to carve out this victory. Their resilience and teamwork today was a testament to their love for the game!
Thank you to our TY students, who came to matches as helpers; no task was too big or too small for you to complete. We wouldn’t have accomplished what we did without you!
A special mention to each student’s parents, guardians and soccer club who made their victory possible. At each game, our girls’ showed compassion, respect and an appreciation for their opponents, ensuring they thanked everyone each game, from referees to bus drivers this level of respect is something they learned from the core people in their life.
Ms Conway and Ms. Quinn commend the girls for their kindness and attentiveness for each opponent and always being gracious in victory.
