First year girls soccer champions

Our Junior Ladies' Football Team are Munster Champs

On Monday May 15 our Junior Ladies Football team travelled to Knocklong GAA pitch to play a very strong Coláiste Fionnchua in the Junior Munster Final. The match showcased a remarkable display of football skills from both sides, leaving spectators on the edge of their seats throughout.

In the first half, our girls showcased their determination and skill, taking a lead of three points as they headed into halftime. The team's relentless efforts continued after the break, further extending their lead to seven points. A goal from Lucy Lee and a point from Emma Sweeney played a crucial role in widening the gap.

However, Coláiste Fionnchua's team with a spirited comeback, quickly closed that gap and eventually went two points ahead with a late goal. In the dying moments of the game. A pivotal moment arose when Caoimhe Troy was fouled inside the square, resulting in a penalty. Emma Sweeney stepped up to take the shot.

Despite a magnificent save by Fionnchua's goalkeeper, fortune favoured St Marys as Hannah Ryan pounced on the rebound and buried the ball into the back of the net. The stadium erupted as the girls were crowned Munster Champions. Clodagh Grimes and Sarah Nicholas, the team's co-captains, stepped forward to receive the cup on behalf of their triumphant teammates.

We are so proud of our ladies. The victory is a testament to their dedication and hard work throughout the year. This is only the beginning of football in St Marys Newport, and we look forward to many more victories in the future.
