First year girls soccer champions
Junior Girls Soccer
We are capping off our week of triumph with another victory. Congratulations to our Junior girls soccer squad, who won their final in a hotly contested match to be crowned champions.
The path to Friday's final was a journey, with the girls hosting teams through the county to top their table to earn their place in the final.
ArdScoil Mhuire Corbally opened the scoring and went 2-0 up after 20 mins. Our girls pulled one back before half time with a great strike from Emma Sweeney. Ard Scoil Mhuire scored early in the second half to take the lead 3-1.
Our girls were phenomenal! Their desire, teamwork and resilience saved them to claw it back to 3-2 with a goal from Jayne Ryan, and shortly after Ellen Hackett got a screamer of a free kick from 25 yards to make it 3-3, it was a fight to the finish. Captain, Aoibhinn McNamara, won every kick out from the opponents in the second half.
We had plenty of chances and were unlucky not to score. In injury time, Abi O Mahoney hit the post with a header. The game was looking like extra time.
Then Jayne Ryan buried one in the bottom corner from the edge of the box. 4-3. Ard Scoil took the ball up the field and let fly from 30 yards. We still don’t know how Chloe Ryan, our keeper, saved it. This truly was a team effort - every player gave it their all, and their never give up attitude was on full display.
Thank you to all the parents and guardians who came to show their support to their team. Thanks to coaches Ms. Conway and Ms Quinn.
