Cillian Dunne: Tractor run to raise funds for travel and equipment

The Friends of Cillian Dunne are holding their main fundraising event for the multi-medal winning wheelchair athlete on Sunday, June 4, in Kilbarron in the form of a Tractor and Truck Run, which will be preceded by an auction to contribute in some meaningful way to the cost of both Cillian’s equipment and travel.

Given the nature of his sport and the level at which he competes, most of the Kilbarron athlete’s races and coaching take place outside the country. In the last five weeks alone, the T54 wheelchair racer has taken part in races in the UK, Switzerland and Italy.

Speaking about the fundraising drive, Cillian's neighbour, Cllr Joe Hannigan said: “If Cillian was playing a team sport all of his travel and coaching would be looked after, but, in his case, all costs must be borne by the athlete himself.

“As friends, neighbours and supporters we want to go further than just give verbal support for the great work the inspirational young athlete is doing and let him see that he is not alone in his endeavours.”

Registration for the Tractor and Truck Run takes place in Kilbarron at 11am, with the auction at 12pm, followed by the departure of the participating vehicles. For any queries about the Truck Run or Auction contact 087-2591699, or 087-2566157

If you can’t make it to Kilbarron on Sunday but would like to contribute, the group has also set up a Gofundme account, details may be found on the Team Cillian Facebook page.

Alternatively you may receive the link to your phone by texting the words team cillian to 087-2044324.
