Nenagh Municipal District receives over €850,000 for Active Travel initiatives

A total of €852,000 has been granted to Nenagh Municipal District Council under the 2023 Active Travel initiatives.

The eight projects are spread between Nenagh, Ballina, Birdhill, Newtown and Borrisokane.

The highest grant, €450,000, is to go towards a new footpath from Nenagh to Lisbunny. The council is still awaiting National Transport Authority approval to begin construction.

Nenagh Urban Greenway, which is at the preliminary design stage is to receive €150,000, with the Nenagh Local Transport Plan getting €118,000.

In Ballina, the Quarry Lane / Cullenagh scheme is to receive €62,000, while the town's Active Travel scheme will receive €5,000. Both schemes are at the preliminary design stage.

Birdhill's scheme, which will see a footpath being built to the train station along with a revamp of the main street, is to receive €50,000.

Borrisokane Community College footpath scheme will receive €15,000 while the Newtown Active Travel scheme will get €5,000.
