Tipperary GAA mourn talented footballer and hurler who won North and County hurling crowns

Tipperary GAA has moured the passing of a talented hurler and footballer who won a North and County title with Nenagh Éire Óg GAA Club.

"We extend our sympathies to the family of Eugene Hackett who sadly passed away. Eugene played hurling and football with Nenagh Éire Óg in his younger days and was part of the great minor and U21 teams of the late 70s who won North and County hurling titles. Ar dheis De go raibh a anam," the club said on its Facebook page.

Mr Hackett, William Street, Nenagh, passed away on August 8 peacefully at Milford Care Centre, surrounded by his loving family.

Predeceased by his parents Bridie and Danny and his brother Donal. Loving father of Órna and grandfather of Gracie Mai. Much loved and sadly missed by his loving family, his sisters and brothers, Michelle, Patrick, Bridget, Jennifer, John and Nuala, Órna's mother Mary, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Reposing this Thursday at Ryan's Funeral Home, Nenagh (E45 KN93), from 5pm until 7pm. Funeral arriving on Friday to St Mary of the Rosary Church, Nenagh (E45 X522), for Funeral Mass at 11am, followed by burial in Tyone Cemetery.

The family has acknowledged the care and attention that Eugene received in Milford Care Centre and Cancer Services Limerick.
