Tipperary TD says redrawn Dáil constituency boundaries 'present their own challenges'

The redrawing of the Tipperary Dáil constituency boundaries "present their own challenges", according to Sinn Féin TD Martin Browne.

He said that Sinn Fein was proud of working across Tipperary.

“As a Sinn Fein TD for Tipperary, I have worked closely with all my colleagues throughout the county to address the issues that people come to me seeking a resolution to.

“Despite the redrawing of the constituency, that co-operation will continue, because it is in the interests of the people that we as a party represent, which will now include the people from the northwest of Kilkenny," said Deputy Browne.

He said that, while he understood that there may be some discontent among the people who will now be included in the constituency with Tipperary North, they can be assured that their interests were now the interests of the party locally.

“Meanwhile, I welcome the return of the Newport / Birdhill area to Tipperary.  Sinn Féin’s Maurice Quinlivan served the area well, and our north Tipperary representatives will continue to deliver upon the high standards he has set," he said.

The TD said that Sinn Féin in Tipperary will now proceed to identify a general election candidate for Tipperary North.

"It is an exciting but important time. The work we have already done to date for the constituents of Tipperary North has put us in a good position to field a candidate who people can be confident will have their interests front and centre," he said.

“In the South of the county, my approach remains the same – to represent the needs of the people who are continuing to face increased costs of living alongside the consequences of poor governance under successive FF/FG governments.  The people have always been my focus, and the redrawing of the constituency does not change that," he said.
