Going Green: Tipperary County Council wants to hear your thoughts on climate action
Tipperary County Council is ‘Setting the Scene for Going Green’ by the publication of a Draft Local Authority Climate Action Plan (LACAP) for the period 2024-2029, and is now inviting further community and stakeholder input in the process.
The Draft LACAP sets out how Tipperary County Council can incorporate and promote a range of mitigation, adaptation and other climate action measures in the delivery of its services, to support the Government’s overall National Climate Objective to achieve, by no later than the end of 2050, a transition to a climate resilient, biodiversity rich, environmentally sustainable and climate neutral economy.
With respect to the Draft Local Authority Climate Action Plan 2024-2029, the Cathaoirleach of Tipperary County Council, Councillor Ger Darcy said: “Tipperary County Council has been one of the foremost local authorities in implementing energy efficiency measures over the last number of years.
"The Council is an important enabler of climate action though the delivery of its functions and services on a daily basis, and by demonstrating leadership in achieving its own emissions reductions and meeting energy efficiency targets.
"This draft LACAP is a positive development for all of us in the county, and addresses a range of important matters such as biodiversity, education and learning, the bioeconomy, energy efficiency, sustainable transport patterns and technologies and co-benefits as a result of climate action."
Director of Services for Environment and Climate Action, Eamon Lonergan, said: “The draft LACAP sets out 100 ambitious, but practical, actions to be delivered by the County Council working with lots of stakeholders over the period 2024 to 2029.
"These actions have been developed with the input of staff across the Council and with the participation of external stakeholders.
"The draft LACAP and the actions set out are now for consideration by all, and I encourage everyone to get involved and have your say in our collective response to climate change."
