Santa gets ready to switch on the Christmas lights in Nenagh

Thousands of families turned out in Nenagh this Sunday as Santa arrive early to switch on the town's Christmas lights and begin the countdown to the festive season.

In a jam-packed afternoon of entertainment which saw a stage with a runway ramp stretching down Pearse Street, the crowds were entertained by local musicians, including Conor Fahy aka Dáwna, Tex Deegan, Ollie Grace, the pupils from Gaelscoil Urmhumhan and many more.

Local DJ JP O'Meara kept the festive atmosphere going with plenty of Christmas songs to sing along to, while MC Fran Curry kept the proceedings moving along with the help of Jacko the Elf.

The younger members of the audience were treated to popular cartoon characters such as Mickey and Minnie Mouse, Paw Patrol and even the Grinch failed to spoil the fun - getting a resounding boo from the crowd.

Santa duly showed up and put everyone at ease that he would definitely be paying a visit come Christmas Eve.

Nenagh Municipal District Cathaoirleach Cllr John "Rocky" McGrath had a number of important message for everyone, urging the younger people to be kind to their parents and grandparents, especially at this time of the year, and appealing to the adults to shop local.

The event, which kickstarts the town's Christmas celebrations, was co-ordinated by Spain AV and sponsored by Tipperary County Council, Nenagh Tourist Office and Nenagh 800.
