Kate Ryan from Ballina receives her scholarship from Professor Emer Ring, Dean of the Faculty of Education at MIC
Two Tipperary students have had their acheivements recognised by Mary Immaculate College.
The achievements of almost 150 students and graduates were celebrated at Mary Immaculate College (MIC) this, with close to €600,000 in scholarships and bursaries presented—the highest total amount bestowed at the College’s annual awards night.
Among those were Sarah Ryan from Tipperary Town who was awarded the Rachel Kenneally Bursary, which is awarded annually in memory of former MIC student and Tipperary Ladies Footballer. The award is worth €750.
Kate Ryan from Ballina received an Undergraduate Entrance Scholarship worth €2,000 to the Bachelor of Education programme at MIC.
Meanwhile, Anna Purcell from Rathdowney, county Laois received the TOMAR Trust Award which is valued at €8,500 over four years.
The award is offered by the TOMAR Trust to support MIC’s PATH programme which seeks to recognise students who transfer with distinction from their Further Education programme to take up a place in MIC Thurles’ teacher preparation programme.
Anna is among the inaugural class of the BA in Education, Home Economics and Business Studies.
Congratulating all those who received awards was Professor Eugene Wall, President of MIC, who said: “I wish to express my heartfelt congratulations to all of our awardees on your success. This ceremony is a most significant occasion, marking as it does one of the highlights of our academic calendar, as we celebrate the various achievements of our current students, recent graduates, and alumni, all of whom have made an outstanding contribution to society.”
