EDITORIAL: Happy Christmas from all of us in Tipperary

Here we are again at the end of another year. 2023 was a good year for Tipperary, and it is not over yet.

There are plenty of Christmas events still to come before the visit from the big man.

So far, we have had many Christmas markets, festivals, lights ceremonies and concerts.

We think Santa must have visited the Premier County more than any other.

The work of our community groups, local authority staff and businesses should be commended. They have been brilliant.

They never fall short, but somehow, every Christmas, they manage to outdo themselves.

Thousands of you have attended these events and made them as magical as they deserve to be. It’s easy to forget in the hustle and bustle of Christmas that it is about fun and spending time with family.

Presents and decorations are nice and enhance the holiday. But in years to come, when you open the photo albums, it will be the people you talk about.

Unless of course those street lights are particularly difficult to untangle (there may be some in our lives who won’t forget that one in a hurry).

As you pick up the final bits of shopping and welcome family home for the holidays, we hope you took the time to catch all the news from the Premier County.

This year, we have enjoyed reading about your fundraisers, gatherings and awards, your poems and prose and everything else you have sent our way.

Those of you who have shared your stories, we thank you once again. And to those readers who read the paper every week or even just check-in occasionally, we are grateful for your support.

So, a very happy Christmas from all of us at the Tipperary Star and The Nationalist.

A reminder on the less festive side of things to stay safe, especially on the roads.

The county council and the gardaí have issued their appeals, but it’s worth saying again.

We very much want to see your pictures after the festivities are over and the plans for the New Year begin.

So, mind yourselves. Stay safe and well, and we will meet you back here next week.
