Tipperary History Group saddened as passing of well-known local historian and gentleman

History Group Sympathy

Members of the Moyne-Templetuohy History Group were saddened on December 9 to learn of the passing of well-known historian, Willie Hayes, “Lisheen”, Carraig Hill, Roscrea. He was the instigator and one of the main driving forces of the restoration of Holy Cross Abbey in the early 1970’s.

As the author of many well-regarded publications we were privileged to have had him as the editor of our three-volume parish history “A Life of Its Own” published in 2002. Always a gentleman, it was a pleasure to have known him.

Deepest sympathy to this wife, Máirín, son Brendan, daughter-in-law Kristy, grandchildren Cillian and Iarla, brother Denis, extended family, and friends.
