Tipperary councillor calls for more support for men’s mental health

Nenagh councillor Michael O’Meara has called on the council to do more to support men’s mental health.

Cllr O’Meara told members and officials at Nenagh Municipal District Council that councillors have a ‘job of work’ supporting people who are struggling. But, he said they need more resources for people who experience issues with mental health and suicide.

“We are at the coalface, and we meet people like this. I see it as a major issue,” said Cllr O’Meara.

Cllr Fiona Bonfield agreed with her district colleague. She said that there has been a lot of recent support for women’s sheds but men’s sheds are also very important.

“It’s a place to meet and chat,” said Cllr Bonfield.
