Newport councillor welcomes news that school is to be part of national retrofit scheme

Labour’s Cllr Fiona Bonfield has welcomed the news that Newport College is one of 14 schools nationally that will be retrofitted and upgraded to a Building Energy Rating of B, as part of the 2024 Schools Energy Retrofit Pathfinder Programme.

“This is great news for a school that has grown from strength to strength over the last number of years, and these works will greatly enhance the current condition of the school build here,” she said.

Cllr Bonfield said that the news will lead to improved energy performance and a more comfortable teaching and learning environment for all at the school.

Cllr Bonfield pointed out that there was further expansion of the school on the cards, as a major extension project had been actively progressed by Tipperary ETB, when the school was selected a few years ago by the Department of Education for a new extension build because of increased enrolments.
