New team in Tipperary to support asylum seekers and refugees to integrate in communities

Tipperary County Council is currently putting together a Local Authority Integration Team (LAIT) to support International Protection Applicants, Refugees and Beneficiaries of Temporary Protection.

Lindsey Cleary has been appointed as LAIT coordinator in Tipperary.

She will be supported by two integration support workers and a clerical worker, still to be appointed.

The role of the team will be to support and guide those seeking refuge to access services and live independently in the community.

The announcement was made at last week’s full sitting of Tipperary County Council.

Director of Services for Economic, Community and Rural Development Brian Beck said the team should be established by the end of March.

Their first piece of work will be a gap analysis.

“I want to make one thing clear. The team has no role in accommodation,” said Mr Beck.

Councillors wished Ms Cleary well in her new role.
