The final seats in the Nenagh Local Electoral Area have just been awarded to Independent Seamus Morris who took the fourth seat and the Labour Party’s Louise Morgan Walsh taking the final seat which closes out this year’s local elections for Nenagh.
The first to be elected were Independent Joe Hannigan and Team Lowry’s Michael O’Meara late on Saturday night, they were then followed by newcomer Ryan O’Meara of Fianna Fáil in the third count earlier today.
Of those who unfortunately did not get elected to County Council this time around, the Green Party’s Iva Pocock was first to be eliminated in the second count. She was followed by Fine Gael’s Eleanor Maher and finally Sinn Fein’s Damien O’Donoghue, who after a valiant campaign just narrowly missed out in the final counts following the division of the votes from those eliminated.
Of the five councillors elected in 2019, Ger Darcy and Hughie McGrath retired this year. Cllr Seamus Morris, Cllr Joe Hannigan and Cllr Michael O’Meara who made up the rest of the 2019 crew are all now re-elected with the two empty spaces being filled by Ryan O’Meara and Louise Morgan Walsh.
Louise Morgan Walsh and Ryan O’Meara make for welcome additions to the council, Morgan Walsh is the first woman elected to the Nenagh LEA in the last 10 years and Ryan O’Meara who is making somewhat of name for himself as a ‘political prodigy’ is the first person under 40 years old to be elected in the past two terms. They are both certain to bring some fresh perspectives to Nenagh.
