Tributes were paid to Garda Damien Sharkey at last week’s sitting of Nenagh District Court.
Sergeant Regina McCarthy led tributes saying Garda Sharkey, who was stationed at the Templemore Garda College, “played a vital role” in the training of new gardaí.
She went on to call him “a mentor” and said he was dedicated and supportive to his colleagues. Sgt McCarthy, on behalf of
Superintendent Alan Cullen, extended their condolences to Garda Sharkey’s family.
“He will be missed by all. Garda Sharkey, we thank you for your service,” said Sgt McCarthy.
On behalf of the practitioners and the court staff, solicitor Maria Flanagan and registrar Eithne Canning extended their “deepest condolences” to the family of Garda Sharkey.
Judge Fiona Brennan said that while she did not know Garda Sharkey, it was clear to her that he was “held in the highest esteem,” and she too, offered her condolences.
Garda Damien Sharkey from Youghalarra Way, Newtown, Nenagh and formerly of Templemichael Terrace, Longford passed away on July 20, 2024.
