A man in his 30s arrested as part of a search operation in Limerick City on Wednesday has appeared before Judge Fiona Brennan at a special sitting of Nenagh District Court.
Nigel Braddish of 15 St Brendan’s Street, St Mary’s Park, Limerick City was charged with possession of controlled drugs and possession of drugs for unlawful sale or supply contrary to Section 3 and 15 of the Misuse of Drugs Act 1977.
Detective Garda Aine McWilliams told the court the defendant was arrested on July 31, 2024 and replied “I apologise” to both charges.
The gardaí made no objection to bail provided the defendant abided by the conditions set out by the court.
Judge Brennan remanded the defendant on his own bond of €200.
The judge put the matter back to October 18, 2024, with consent for DPP instructions.
The solicitor for the defendant made no objection to the conditions and asked the judge to grant legal aid as his client is on a social welfare payment.
During a search under warrant and as part of Operation Tara, gardaí attached to Mayorstone Crime Unit on Wednesday and Thursday seized suspected cocaine and cannabis with an estimated total value of €200,000 and €250,000 cash and arrested one man in his 30s.
The search was of several residential locations in the St Mary’s Park area of Limerick City, on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, Gardaí seized suspected cannabis valued at approximately €100,000 and arrested one man.
In a follow-up search on Thursday, August 1 2024, suspected cocaine with an estimated value of €100,000, and €250,000 cash were seized.
The searches were assisted by the Garda Armed Support Unit and the Garda Dog Unit.
The drugs seized will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.
On Thursday, A woman in her 50s was arrested and remains in garda custody.
Today, Friday, August 2, gardaí made a further arrest of a man in his late teens as part of the same investigation.
He is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act, 1996, at a Garda Station in county Limerick.
Gardaí say investigations are ongoing.
