Nenagh sports groups have been allocated €626,003 in funding under the Sports Capital Equipment Programme.
The local and regional allocations were announced today by the Minister for Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media, Catherine Martin and Minister of State for the Gaeltacht and Sport, Jack Chambers.
Minister Martin said the €150million programme reflects that sport is "crucial for all communities in Ireland."
"It has been a tough two years for many sports clubs, but the pandemic demonstrated the importance of sport for our collective wellbeing.
"The grants we are announcing today will significantly improve sports facilities in every county," said Minister Martin.
She applauded the work of volunteers and praised the diversity in applicants, particularly the focus on women's participation in sport.
In Nenagh, funding applications were made for four local groups and one regional organisation.
Nenagh Eire Og Hurling & Football Club, Nenagh Golf Club, Nenagh Hockey Club and Nenagh Lawn Tennis Club all had their applications accepted in local allocations.
Projects ranged from fencing to equipment, with Nenagh Tennis Club applying for funding for a children's development project.
Minister of State with responsibility for Sport, Jack Chambers, said he was pleased to see funding for community groups.
"I am particularly pleased that so many community centres and organisations have been allocated funding to develop projects in towns and villages across the country.
"If we want to achieve our participation targets, we must provide high-quality facilities, and that is what today's announcement is all about," said Mr Chambers.
Additionally, Nenagh Olympic Athletic Club was allocated €248,851 in the regional allocations for an outdoor walking and running track.
“As well as grants to local clubs, I am also delighted that we are providing over €17m for projects deemed to be of “regional” significance. Amongst these grantees are a number of GAA County Boards, National Governing Bodies of Sport and Local Authorities,” said Mr Chambers.
Toomevara, Moneygall, Silvermines and Portroe GAA clubs were all allocated local capital funding.
Puckane & District Tennis Club and Roscrea's hurling and golf clubs also benefited from today's announcement.
The total investment in sport in these areas was €248,430.
