INVESTMENT: Tipperary bio-economy campus gets further €1m funding boost

The Cathaoirleach of the Oireachtas Agriculture Committee and Fianna Fáil TD for Tipperary, Jackie Cahill has announced that he has secured a €1m investment for the National BioEconomy Campus in Lisheen.

Deputy Cahill announced this positive news for the area and for the advancement of technologies and initiatives in the battle against climate change.

This news follows Deputy Cahill’s confirmation earlier this week that planning permission has been granted for the Naringtech BioProducts Campus, which is also located in Lisheen, bringing at least 30 jobs to the area.

“The National BioEconomy Campus has a huge role to play in reducing Ireland’s carbon emissions," said Deputy Cahill.

He said that in the past week he had secured €1m from the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine for the campus.

“Prof Kevin O’Connor and his UCD team are constantly coming up with new initiatives and technologies to help the agri-food industry meet its targets. This campus is going to have a key role in Ireland’s future," said the Thurles TD.

Deputy Cahill sad that the past week had been a very positive one for Lisheen, with the campus receiving considerable State investment through the Department of Agriculture.

"On top of this, we have secured planning permission for the BioProducts Campus next door here, which will provide at least 30 jobs locally and see industries start moving back into this area," he said.
