€809,400 in grants for ten Tipperary community projects

Ten Tipperary community centres are to receive grants from the department of Community and Rural Development

Ten community centres in Tipperary will receive essential funding of €809,400 to carry out upgrades and repairs it has been announced this week.

Senator Garret Ahearn was speaking after Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, confirmed funding of €33 million which will be spread across 278 community centres, when he welcomed the announcement which he said will make a big difference in the successful communities.


The Fine Gael Senator told tipperarylive.ie; “This incredible announcement is the largest single investment in our community centres in decades. Community centres are valued shared spaces and are very much at the heart of Tipperary towns and villages. I hope this funding assists in making them even better in the provision of services to people all across Tipperary.

“Grants of up to €300,000 will be provided under the new Community Centre Investment Fund (CCIF). Some of the projects include parish and scouts halls, GAA clubhouses, Men’s Sheds and youth facilities.


“Enhancements may include extensions to existing community centres, energy retrofitting, maintenance works, or the upgrading of toilet facilities. Furthermore, we want to emphasise the potential of community centres to act as social hubs in Tipperary.


“I also want to congratulate the successful projects and to thank them for the vital work they do in providing services in their local communities. This funding will deliver high quality capital projects for community facilities that bring benefit to the local community,” said Senator Ahearn.


The ten Tipperary projects to be funded will have €809,400 divided up between them and the successful groups are:


*Drom Community Centre €10,000.00
*Terryglass Improvements Association €25,000.00
*1st/4th/22nd/32nd Tipperary Clonmel Scout Group €25,000.00
* Three Drives Family Resourcec Centre €58,393.33
*Tipperary Development Association (Newport) Company Limited By Guarantee €39,764.45
*Ballagh Social Centre CLG €36,000.00
*Rosegreen Development Association Company Limited by Guarantee €41,000.00
* Burncourt Community Council Company Limited by Guarantee €209,832.20
*Roscrea Cares Company Limited By Guarantee €245,652.44
* Ballymackey Football Club Company Limited By Guarantee €118,766.30
