St. Michael’s National School, Cloughjordan and Cloughjordan National School are celebrating being named Junior and Senior County Winners respectively of the national art competition, Someone Like Me, which will see them join 48 other schools to compete for the national title at the national awards ceremony to be held in Dublin in January.
Now in its seventh year, the Someone Like Me art competition, which is organised by the National Disability Authority, attracted more than 2,700 entries from national schools across the country.
Junior county winners St Michael’s winning team were autism class- junior infants to second class pupils Conor Hanly, Cormac Rooney, Alan Keane, Logan Fylan, Luke O'Brien and Ciarán Gleeson, under their teacher Antoinette Moroney. The project was called Welcomem to our Hive.
Senior county winners Cloughjordan National School’s was a painting by fourth class pupil Annie Davis, under teacher Louise Cromer.
Launching this year’s national shortlist of winners, Minister of State with special responsibility for disability, Anne Rabbitte congratulated both schools and said that she was hugely encouraged by the growing interest in the art competition.
