Everyone was a winner at the Nenagh Municipal District Awards Night 2022

The Nenagh Municipal District Awards this week returned to the civic offices following a three-year break.

Nenagh Cathaoirleach, Cllr Hughie McGrath presented voluntary groups and individuals with awards for their commitment, dedication and achievements.

District Administrator and MC on the night Rosemary Joyce said all of those nominated were winners.

“If this were the Oscars, I’d have an envelope here, and I’d be saying the nominees are. It’s not the Oscars, everyone here is a winner,” said Ms Joyce.

The voluntary groups were those in Tidy Towns, Residents Association while individuals were in sports significant contributions and achievements and culture and heritage.

A number of Nenagh800 medals were also presented. Cllr McGrath said it was great to see the awards back at the civic offices.

“As one of the award winners tonight, I hope you will enjoy the evening and that the recognition of what you do will help you to continue and motivate others to help out as well,” said Cllr McGrath.

TIDY TOWNS
The first category presented was the Tidy Town awards. The winners were awarded based on the highest increase in points in the 2022 SuperValu Tidy Towns Competition.

The Category, A winner was Shallee Enhancement Group, with a 16-point increase this year.

Riverstown Killeen Tidy Towns Committee took the category B award with a 13-point increase.

Newport Tidy Towns Committee were the winners in category C with a 12-point improvement.

RESIDENTS ASSOICATIONS

Hillcrest Manor in Newport and Ballygraigue Court were awarded the Residents Association awards.

Hillcrest Manor was awarded for their work in maintaining the estate to a high standard.

While Ballygraigue Court was awarded for their work to promote biodiversity and sustainability.

BURIAL GROUNDS
The top burial grounds awards went to Ballymackeogh Burial Ground Committee, Kenyon Street Burial Ground Committee and Lorrha (New) Burial Ground Committee.

These three groups work to keep their respective burial grounds tidy and to a very high standard.

SPORTING ACHIEVEMENTS
Bertie Sherlock was recognised for his commitment to promoting and coaching camogie and hurling clubs.

Seamus Harty was presented with an award for his work in youth development and Nenagh Ormond FC.

For his lifelong promotion of participation in athletics, Pat Naughton was recognised on the night.

ACHIEVEMENTS
For their significant contributions and achievements, Paddy Collins, James Heenan, Margaret Sheehy and Martin Langton were honoured.

Paddy Collins was recognised for his work on the Outdoor Swimming Pool in Ballina and the promotion of Water Safety, while

James Heenan was for promoting the history and heritage of Lorrha.

Margaret Sheehy received her award for her contribution and dedication to community efforts in Killoscully and Martin Langton for his work with Nenagh Tidy Towns and the St Vincent de Paul Association.

BEST CULTURAL AND HERITAGE GROUP
The Best Cultural Group award went to the Nenagh Ormond Brass Band for their “significant contribution to keeping the music alive in Nenagh and their continued community spirit and generosity in sharing their time and their talents.”

The Best Heritage Group award went to the Martin O’Meara VC Committee for their work in the remembrance of soldier Martin O’Meara alive.

Nineteen Nenagh800 medals were also presented to council staff, Nenagh Municipal District councillors and some award recipients.

Cllr Hughie McGrath thanked the staff for all their work in organising the evening.
