The ceremony, which will be open to the public, is expected to be attended by a host of celebrities from the world of music and showbusiness.

Among those expected to attend is President Michael D Higgins.

Following the funeral Mass, Shane is expected to be cremated in a private family service.

The funeral arrangements, which have yet to be finalised, are being taken care of by Nenagh undertaker JJ Ryan.

The singer and songwriter died last Thursday following a long illness.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Victoria Clarke; father Maurice and sister Siobhán. Shane was predeceased by his mother Therese, whose family roots are in Carney Commons, Nenagh, and where he spent some of his childhood.
