BREAKING: Tipperary TD Michael Lowry confirms cost settlement for Moriarty Tribunal

Tipperary TD Michael Lowry has confirmed costs settlement arising from Moriarty Tribunal.

"I am pleased to state that the long running issue in relation to the payment of costs amounting to €2.869,338.09 million arising from representation on my behalf before the Moriarty Tribunal, has finally been resolved. This tribunal was established in September 1997 – 26 years ago.

"This has happened after I successfully appealed to the Court of Appeal and overturned the original decision of the Tribunal in respect of costs in March 2018.

"Although the delay in finalising this issue was inexcusable, unreasonable, and unfair, I am pleased with the final resolution and the discharge of the costs to those who represented me before the Tribunal.

"I will not be making any further statement or comments on this subject," he said in a statement.

The Moriarty Tribunal, officially called the Tribunal of Inquiry into certain Payments to Politicians and Related Matters, was established in 1997 into the financial affairs of politicians Charles Haughey and Michael Lowry.

The final report of the tribunal was published in March 2011.
