People who dive from this popular Tipperary bridge will face on-the-spot fine

People who jump from the bridge in Ballina into the River Shannon will face a €75 on-the-spot fine after Nenagh Municipal District councillors adopted new bylaws for the town at their February meeting.

District Administrator Rosemary Joyce said the bylaws would give the Gardraí powers to prosecute people who breached the regulation.

Cllr Phyll Bugler welcomed the move and highlighted that there had been a number of tragedies at the bridge over the years.

“There are dangerous currents there,” said the Ballina councillor.
