ST PATRICK'S DAY: Nenagh locals turnout for celebrations on a beautiful day

The St Patrick's Day festival in Nenagh was a big hit with locals in the North Tipperary town as the sunshine brought out a big crowd to celebrate the annual fun-filled festival outside Nenagh Courthouse and Banba Square on Sunday.

A huge variety of exciting entertainment took place for festivalgoers throughout the weekend, where the festivities begin on Saturday, March 16, with music and live performances in Nenagh Tourist Office and Banba Square.

On St Patrick's Day itself on the Sunday, the Nenagh celebrations featured a large outdoor concert and festival market situated in the Nenagh Courthouse car park.

As part of the ongoing endeavour to make Nenagh a go-to family destination, the celebrations were centred around Nenagh’s historical district with multiple performance stages, street entertainment, children’s funfair, food and market stalls, live music, and children’s entertainment.

The festival got underway on Sunday with a performance by the Nenagh Ormond Brass Band who took to the stage first to play for the crowd who walked around the market stalls outside Nenagh Courthouse.

Special guests on the day included ‘A Whole Lotta Smokie’ - Europe’s number 1 Smokie Tribute Show - while Jacko the Clown and the team from Giggles Entertainment entertained onlookers with live dancing onstage with special guests Lucky the Leprechaun, Bluey, Fireman Sam and Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

The Easter Bunny also made an appearance in the Nenagh Tourist Office while the St Patrick's Day Express began its travels at 1 pm, and took young and old on a fun-filled journey throughout the streets of Nenagh.

Special guests also included Tipperary Fire and Rescue, Collie Hogan and The Rewind, Emma FitzGerald and Tradstorm, Martin Grace, Nenagh Brass Band, and many more musical guests, dancers, and performers.

And finally, proud Nenagh man Conor Fahy (aka Dàwna) performed live songs directly from making his debut European performance with the legendary Gavin James recently.

In all, it was a terrific day's fun for festivalgoers in Nenagh with the beautiful weather playing its part in bringing families to the well-run event.
