North Tipperary U13D Football Championship Final

Nenagh Éire Óg 1-5

Silvermines 0-7

By Ronan Loughnane

Nenagh Eire Og pulled out all the stops to fend off a late Silvermines charge and claim the silverware at a sun-drenched Borrisoleigh on Sunday afternoon last. The game was nip and tuck throughout with the Mines grabbing the opening point of the game in the first minute through Jim Stones’ fisted effort.

James Timmons was in sparkling form in the Mines goal and three times he denied Dylan Corrigan in the opening fifteen minutes. He was very unlucky with the second save as the ball broke kindly for Harry Ryan who gleefully tucked away the rebound for Nenagh’s opening score.

Eoin Hanrahan was in great scoring form for Silvermines and he landed two lovely points from play to restore parity. Corrigan finally got on the scoresheet with a nice point in the 17th minute to edge Nenagh back in front.

Silvermines had a great opportunity to take the lead before the break but Hanrahan’s penalty fizzed over the crossbar to leave the sides level 1-1 to 0-4 at the break. Nenagh dominated the third quarter with Harry Ryan kicking three smashing points to put clear water between the teams. Eire Og goalkeeper James Donnellan was also in good form and he saved smartly in the 10th minute.

Hanrahan (S) and Callum Ahern-Donnellan (N) traded points as the ‘Mines cranked up the pressure in the closing minutes. Further points from Conor McManus and Hanrahan left just a point between them before Donnellan made a great goal-line clearance three minutes into additional time to ensure victory for Nenagh.
