Litter issue becoming a matter of urgency around Tipperary ahead of summer season

Labour’s local election candidate for the Nenagh LEA Louise Morgan Walsh has called for a common-sense approach to tackle the litter issue ahead of the summer season around Nenagh and Lough Derg.

Speaking on the issue recently, Ms Morgan Walsh said, “Litter is a collective problem that needs to be addressed at a community level. As we brace for hopefully sunnier days this summer, our public areas, especially around Lough Derg often bear witness to mounds of discarded waste, tarnishing the beauty of our local landscapes.

“We need to make it easier for people to dispose of their waste.

“It is clear that litter is not just an individual problem but a collective one that requires concerted efforts at a community level. Tipperary County Council must be equipped with the necessary funding and resources to address this pressing issue effectively. Increased provision of bins and maintenance staff is imperative to keep our public spaces clean and safe for all.

“Local volunteers such as Terryglass Tidy Towns and Nenagh Tidy Towns must be commended for their hard work clearing up their community. It’s important to praise the work they put into clearing litter every week, however, this responsibility can’t be left entirely to volunteers.

“Fine Gael, Fianna Fáil & the Green Party have had years to look at how we use our community spaces, but no vision is forthcoming.

“As we prepare to enjoy the summer months and the long bright evenings, local spaces need to be better equipped. We need more vision for our community spaces in the Nenagh LEA.

“I’m calling for adequate bins and resources to be provided to Tipperary County Council to tackle the issue of rubbish. This cannot be achieved without adequate support and resources from the Government.”
