Burgess hit 'Mines for four late scores to edge out close North Final in Nenagh

Savvy Kitchens North Premier Intermediate Hurling Championship Final

Burgess 0-21

Silvermines 0-19

It was a tale of two Stephens in Nenagh on Sunday afternoon as the best of time came to Burgess who clinched the Savyy Kitchens North Premier Intermediate title win over Silvermines and a fiercely and close fought contest in MacDonagh Park in the first of a double-header.

Four points in five minutes of injury time from Burgess was clutch hurling at its best from the Kilcolman-based club, replicating their semi-final win over Ballina the previous week to come from behind at the death and claim the win over a Silvermines team who will have plenty of regrets looking back at this game.

For Burgess, namesakes Stephen Kirwan and Stephen Murray dragged their team to victory with the duo heavily involved in the final ten minutes of the game when the result was up in the air, both directly involved in all of the final seven points for their side.

Silvermines will rue some poor throughout the game which gave Burgess something to hang onto when they were playing second best, particularly considering that the ‘Mines led by two points as the clock ticked into the 60th minute.

Once again though, they were far too reliant on Jason Forde for scores which has been their Achilles heel over the years, but they have a very young team and the performance will be something they can be happy with going into the county championship in two weeks.
