Mawdsley down but not out as she prepares for medal tilt with relay team later this week

Tipperary athlete Sharlene Mawdsley may have underachieved by her own recent standards. Still, the Olympics isn’t over as she now has three days rest before returning to the Stade de France on Friday morning for the semi-finals of the women’s 4x400m relay at 9.40 am.

With team-mate Rhasidat Adeleke highly unlikely to race unless she fails to qualify for the final of the individual 400m final, which is due to take place on Friday night, it will be on Mawdsley, along with Sophie Becker, Phil Healy, and Lauren Cadden to get Ireland through.

If they do, and with Adeleke to call on, the European champions will have realistic medal hopes for the final on Saturday.
