The Tipperary Roads Policing Unit issued multiple fines for speeding outside a national school in Nenagh yesterday, after monitoring drivers exceeding the 60km/h speed limit in wet weather conditions.
The operation was set up to ensure road safety near the school, where young children are frequent pedestrians. Despite the presence of clear signage indicating the reduced speed zone, several motorists were caught driving significantly over the limit.
This is especially concerning given the wet weather, which is known to dramatically increase stopping distances, making high speeds even more dangerous.
In light of the violations, officers issued fixed charge notices to the offending drivers.
Authorities have reminded the public that driving at excessive speeds in challenging weather conditions not only endangers the driver but also pedestrians and other road users.
