Nenagh Ormond begins life in Division 1B of the AIL with brilliant home victory

All-Ireland League - Division 1B - Round 1

Nenagh Ormond 27

Dublin University (Trinity) 3

Nenagh Ormond started life in Division 1B of the AIL with an emphatic bonus point home win over Dublin University last Saturday afternoon.

Newly promoted Nenagh Ormond - plying their trade at this level for the first time - were full value for the victory, and given the challenges that lie ahead at this level, they will be delighted with the performance and confidence they will garner for the rest of the season.

After a cagey opening, Conor McMahon's boot broke the deadlock, and he landed a penalty for a 3-0 lead.

That gave Nenagh momentum and soon after debutant Angus Blackmore crossed for their opening try converted by McMahon.

Conor O’Shaughnessy shortly before the break would add their second try for a 15-0 margin at the interval.

Trinity would get on the board early on in the second half, Matty Lynch with a penalty. Nenagh however powered their way to the win as they ran in two tries to see out the contest. Dylan Murphy and Josh Rowland with the tries and one more McMahon conversion made it a memorable afternoon in New Ormond Park.

Nenagh will be on the road for round 2 this weekend, facing Blackrock RFC who lost their opening round game to Old Wesley.
