Tipperary is set to welcome two new members to its County Council following the election of Fine Gael’s Michael Murphy and Fianna Fáil’s Ryan O’Meara to Dáil Éireann.

The council will convene tonight to formally co-opt JP O’Meara (FF) and Tom Acheson (FG) as their replacements.

At a meeting on Monday night, held in the Abbey Court Hotel in Nenagh, Fianna Fáil selected JP O’Meara to succeed his brother, Ryan O’Meara, on the council.

Ryan O’Meara expressed his enthusiasm for the appointment, stating, “I’m thrilled to announce that JP O’Meara has been chosen to take over my seat on Tipperary County Council, representing the Nenagh-Borrisokane area.”

The decision was unanimously supported by Fianna Fáil members in the Nenagh-Borrisokane region. Ryan added, “I’m excited to collaborate with JP in delivering positive outcomes for the area in the years ahead.”

Meanwhile, in South Tipperary, Fine Gael has nominated Tom Acheson to fill Michael Murphy’s position. Acheson secured the highest number of votes at a Fine Gael selection convention on Monday evening, held in Raheen House, Clonmel. Other contenders included Bríd Green and Joe Leahy.

Cllr John Fitzgerald is expected to propose Acheson’s appointment during Thursday’s meeting, with a seconding motion anticipated from Cllr Marie Murphy.
