As lambing season approaches, Tipperary County Council is appealing to all dog owners to take extra care and ensure their pets are kept under control.
The council are eager to highlight that this time of year is crucial for local farmers, and the risk of dog attacks on sheep flocks is a serious concern.
Dog attacks on sheep can cause severe suffering to the animals and lead to devastating financial and emotional losses for farmers and their families.
Even the most well-behaved family pet can become a threat to livestock if left unsupervised, particularly at night.
The council reminds all dog owners that they are legally responsible for any damage or injury their dog causes to livestock or people.
If you witness sheep worrying or any attacks on livestock, it is vital to report it immediately. You can contact the Tipperary County Council Dog Warden Service by calling 0818 06 5000, or reach out to your local Garda Station.
For further details on responsible dog ownership, contact the Environment & Climate Action Section at 0818 06 5000.
