Our Colaiste Phobal senior soccer girls headed to Longford town to play Mercy Secondary School Ballymahon , Co. Longford in a league match.
In the opening minutes there were great saves made by Coláiste’s goalkeeper Grace Mulrooney. Our defence line played tremendously keeping the ball up the field.

There were threatening shots made by Ceola Bergin, Mya Steele and Ella Carey. Ceola Bergin scored a brilliant goal, set up by Ella Carey in the 20th minute of the match. Laura Hogan and Sheoladh Cunningham-Dynan worked hard in the backs creating scoring opportunities throughout the entire match.
During the second half our girls came back stronger. However, Mercy scored an unexpected goal 3 minutes into this half.
Ella Carey, Ceola Bergin and Amber De Lewis took outstanding shots but they were blocked well by the opponents goalkeeper. Kayleigh Delaney and Ceola Bergin worked well together to get ahead of Mercy.

A corner was taken by Mercy in the 67th minute of the match which lead to a goal scored, this made the score 2-1. Two minutes later, Ceola Bergin scores with a super and well deserved goal for the Coláiste.
Then another 2 minutes later Mercy score a third goal followed by yet another goal making the score 4-2 with 10 minutes left. Grace Mulrooney made tremendous saves throughout this match. In the end the final score was 4-2.
The girls worked hard throughout the entire match but in the end it didn’t go their way. We wish them luck in their upcoming cup quarter final this week.
