North Tipperary U13A Football Final

Newport 4-10

Toomevara 2-5

Darragh Harrington scored 4-2 as Newport were much too good for Toomevara when the sides met in the North U13 A Football final played at sundrenched Puckaun last Monday afternoon.

Harrington found the net four times in the opening half, with three coming in a four-minute period midway through the half, before completing the quartet seconds before half time, which enabled the Mulcaire boys to take a 4-7 to 0-2 lead at the interval. It was an impressive display with Ronan Toohey on song with three points, including one from a forty five while Colin McBride scored twice and Jim O’Mahony with one.

While it was very one-sided on the scoring stakes, the Newport defence had a few moments to worry with Theo Dunne and Tom Ryan posing a threat, but goalkeeper Luke Healy produced two fine saves.  Toome also had a penalty, but Theo Dunne was inches wide.

After half-time, it was more of the same from Newport as Robert Long doubled his account and Harrington added a free. Yet, Toomevara never gave up. They won a second penalty ten minutes into the second half, but Healy saved Tom Ryan’s effort. Ryan came again with a point before Theo Dunne managed to find a gap and fire home a fine goal with eleven minutes remaining.

A Harrington point from play was Newport’s final score, but final minutes were all Toomevar,a and they won their third penalty, and this time Theo Dunne slotted home to bring an end to the scoring.
